- How to Clean Hair Brushes and Combs
- Keep your hairbrush clean and it will last for a long time. Brushes range in price from $15 to 150, but no matter how much you spend on a brush you want it to last a very long time; how you take care of these tools will have a major effect on their longevity. Properly caring for your brushes is easy and will make all of the difference.
- Things You'll Need : Dish soap, Plastic container, Hot water- okay tepid
- Instructions
- 1. Remove all hair and visible material that is not supposed to be in the brush. Use a large-toothed comb to gently remove hair from the surface of the brush.
- 2. Fill a plastic container (or sink) with hot water and dish soap. Make sure there is a lather.
- 3. Soak the brushes and combs in this solution for about 15 minutes; if your brushes came with their own cleaning instructions, follow them.
- 4. Rinse the brushes with cool water to remove the soap as well as any dirt and grime the soaking removed.
- 5. Lay the brushes on a towel and let them air dry. This may take a full day for some brushes; be patient, as this is the best way to dry them without causing damage.
- Tips & Warnings
- Do not soak wood brushes as they will rot; instead, dip wooden brushes into a soap-and-water solution for not longer than 2 minutes. While soaking, do not put tension or stress on your brushes, as this may cause damage to the shape. Do not dry your brushes with excessive heat (like a hair dryer).
